August Community Connect – Matt Vaughan
Matt Vaughan might be the world’s most interesting locksmith, which is why we are delighted to highlight him as our Community Connect Client for the month of August. Matt was raised on the Northshore of New Orleans, but has lived downtown since 1992. He began his career in the service industry, working his way up from bartender to manager and, eventually, owner. He helped establish some of New Orleans’ most provocative haunts, including the Whirling Dervish, Shim Sham, Erin Rose and R bar. Matt considered himself a “lifer” in the bar business until about seven years ago, when he had what he calls a “reverse mid-life crisis.” Happy with many aspects of his life and willing to continue down a well-formed path he had created for himself, he instead began to question his career due to lack of fulfillment. Matt wanted to feel inspired by his work and began exploring his options. Always skilled with tools, very handy and equipped with a love of learning, he was intrigued when he saw that the Associated Locksmiths of America was having a convention in New Orleans. He jumped at the chance to attend and enrolled in a training course. He was immediately hooked and spent several years obtaining the necessary education to pursue his dream.
His business, The Locksmith Matt Vaughan, was established five years ago. The skills Matt accrued from his customer service background and his reliability, technology integration and genuine love for the craft are what differentiate him from his competitors. He believes a locksmith does not have to compromise quality work in order to offer affordable prices. His business model is based upon low overhead and direct customer communication. Matt provides mobile services, including on-site repairs, installations and rekeying. He travels to homes and businesses throughout New Orleans and Metairie, and will even cross Lake Pontchartrain if needed. Recently, he became a qualified member of the Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA). ALOA members are dedicated to ensuring professional excellence and ethics; they strive to expand the exchange of trade knowledge and preserve the integrity of the industry. By holding members to a high set of standards, the association hopes to create a public demand for professional locksmiths/security services.
Matt lives in Holy Cross with his wife Suzy and their newly adopted Pomeranian Bubs. Bubs accompanies Matt on most jobs. Suzy is the owner of Flora Savage, a contemporary local florist. Matt and Bubs occasionally help with flower deliveries. Matt is authentic, trustworthy and a true “lifer” in the city of New Orleans. We couldn’t be happier to support his hard work!
